About Us
Disaster Scope provides personal and individualized consulting services to federal, state and local governments and private non-profit businesses in disaster response, recovery and mitigation.
Disaster Scope was initially founded to meet the needs of local governmental and private non-profit agencies in Southern California as they pursued disaster recovery from the Northridge Earthquake and subsequent disasters. Following the devastating hurricanes along the Gulf Coast in 2005, we expanded our services by providing technical and policy support to the federal government, both out of the Joint Field Office in Louisiana and offices in California.
In addition to contributing to the recovery efforts domestically, Disaster Scope recently expanded internationally as it assisted the Salvation Army World Service Office in its response to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake by providing experienced operations personnel to manage its Transitional Housing Project in Jacmel, Haiti.
We provide assistance to local, state and federal agencies in every stage of disaster recovery from basic grant program application, project development and mitigation to federal policy consultation, negotiation and formal appeals.
Disaster Scope continues to expand its expertise to assist federal, state and local governments and private non-profit institutions. Disaster Scope currently has associates who have extensive disaster recovery expertise, as well as years of experience working in the fields of engineering, architecture, construction and project management.
Graeme Cox, the principal consultant for Disaster Scope, is a registered professional engineer. He has been in the disaster management field since 1994, when he joined the California Office of Emergency Services to help with the recovery from the Northridge Earthquake. Prior to that, Mr. Cox spent over 13 years in the engineering and construction fields, dealing with the design and construction of refineries, hydroelectric, geothermal, photovoltaic and nuclear power plants; industrial and commercial facilities; as well as residential structures.
Diane Cox, the administrative director of Disaster Scope, has a background in developmental psychology and organizational sociology. Ms. Cox has worked in the mental health and education fields for over 30 years and, in addition to providing vision and direction to the firm, contributes resiliency research and development for our clients.
